There was this urban legend about these Bonsai cats that you kept in a jar. They couldn't grow, so they stayed kitten-sized forever. PETA got really upset about it, but it wasn't true.

Anyways, this song uses that as sort a metaphor for unhealthy relationships. It's sort of a stalker song. Eat your fucking heart out, Sting.
